"Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it." -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
My husband has made several birdhouses this spring and placed them throughout our yard. Some are in trees. Other houses are attached to poles. Almost all are now occupied. This afternoon my son and I heard several occupants in a nearby tree. Upon closer observation we spied four baby birds. They would appear every time my son whistled. This was quite a scene and it attracted several of our neighbors with a few running to get their cameras. How appropriate for the upcoming celebration.
Another school year is here. My daughter is off to college. She needed a table for her printer. Rather than buy, my husband used his carpentry skills to make one. The dark wood is from an 80 year old black walnut tree that that fell in our yard during a storm a few years ago. My husband had a friend cut up the wood into boards at his sawmill. Our majestic tree lives on.
